The script for “Fish in the Fur” (German title “Fisch im Fell“), directed by Dean Benzin and written by screenwriter Christian Pasquariello, is the result of the youth work of the Evangelical Church of Braunschweig.
Together with their youth deacon, the young people from the Harz region, who can also be seen in the main roles, developed the idea for the film and produced it with the support of a professional team including Frederic Lau and Dieter Hallervorden.
An adventurous journey awaits the friends, which begins in the ruins of a burnt-down youth hut in the Harz Mountains and takes the protagonists all the way to South Tyrol in search of a secret cave in the Alps, putting the group’s friendship and trust to the test.
The score for this unusual adventure film, which is being published by UCP.ONE, was composed by Max Wege, who also co-wrote the end credits track “My Secret” with Charlie Paschen, which will be released by Project “Porzellan” on Artkeim² on 16 June 2023.
“Fish in the Fur” breaks with the conventions of conventional youth film productions. With elements from action and adventure films, combined with the impulsive imagination of young minds and visually impressive scenes in South Tyrol, as well as a frightening brown bear, the film captivates its audience. “Fish in the Fur” is also a project to inspire young people to make films. The multi-faceted characters are confronted with their own fears and secrets on their journey of discovery. The film also deals with a range of topics relevant to young people, such as inclusion, sexual identity, environmental protection and the influence of social media.
Summary
It’s supposed to be more than just a trip. Once a year, the village youth group goes away for a few days to experience community and leisure away from home. But this time it’s supposed to be more than just fun and relaxation. Much more. After a serious fire, the meeting place of six young people, a small hut, is completely destroyed, revealing a casket hidden under the floorboards. The mysterious contents call the group around Lydia to South Tyrol in the mountains. For Theo in his wheelchair, the trip is unthinkable. But he, of all people, is enthusiastic about the idea. He loves the mountains and the trip would be a dream come true for him. After some initial scepticism, Sarah, Johanna, Finn and Luca agree. The journey begins. Their destination is a cave near the summit.
Not only does the encounter with the transgender punk Ninja cause tension in the group, but the hike with the experienced mountain guide Peter also causes fears and self-doubt among the young people. The effects tug at the teenagers’ solidarity with one another. Can they achieve their goal despite the difficulties? And what will await them when they solve the mystery surrounding the mysterious find from the silver capsule?
